Lazo Eterno

Benicia resident Joe Garcia develops his abstract works through subject matters that are based on the built environment and organic forms.  Primarily working with acrylic paint, he also works with a variety of other media including photography, wood, metal, cement and found objects.  As a practicing architect/artist, much of his works explore the juxtaposition of geometry and the varied forms and movements that can be found in nature. He enjoys the use of texture and the multi-layering of colors to create imagery that provides complex depth and dimension to each work.  Most works are intuitive experiments that begin with what he calls “predictable processes” that quickly evolve into forms, shapes and a series of collective elements that are far removed from the first mark made on the canvas, paper or textured imagery.  These intangible challenges lead to paths which allow him to discover the specific and unique personality of each piece.
