Aynur Girgin Westen at gamble + DESIGN

This is a really wonderful show at the Cole Valley interior design firm gamble + DESIGN that we installed with the hope that it can be seen safely and socially distanced as the summer evolves.

Aynur Girgin Westen is a San Francisco based Turkish visual artist working in photography. She observes and photographs the human species, employing deliberate camera movements. She depicts the random nature of interactions in large well-lit public spaces. As she says "Past, present and future overlap. Ghosts appear in the crowd. Patterns emerge from chaos.”

"Growing up in rural western Turkey, I spent my days running between fields, climbing olive trees, and catching free rides by hanging on the backs of horse carts. Rows of cherries in wooden boxes, grooves in an old olive trunk, fig leaves between the thin branches—these images caught my attention early.
Now, as a full-time artist, I still look at the world through the curious eyes of the girl from the village. A self-taught photographer, I employ camera shake, multiple exposures, and other unconventional techniques to transform familiar objects into abstract compositions."
